In March 2013 Sport Taranaki launched a $1 million Skills4Life programme, centred on providing fundamental movement skills and games to primary school children.
The purpose of Skills4life:
-
Increase primary school students skills in two key areas; years 0-4 Fundamental Skills and in years 5-8 Game Skills
-
Increase the skill level of primary school teachers through the programme and by offering additional PD opportunities
-
To ensure the school is working towards a sustainable programme of physical activity, sport and physical education
-
Develop plans for school sport, physical activity and physical education and support the implantation of programme
-
Connecting “Skills4Life” (and school sport, physical activity and physical education) to the wider school curriculum and the NZC.
Skills4Life provides a key medium for natural connection to all New Zealand curriculum learning areas and wider school life
